Kenilworth schoolboy to dazzle London audiences in Oliver! musical

Oscar George has been selected to play the lead role in a London production of Oliver!

Oscar George, in year 6 at Crackley Hall School, will share the part of Oliver in Endellion Theatre Company’s productions in March with two other boys.

The ten-year-old has already impressed local audiences in school productions of Aladdin and Mary Poppins - and after a school trip to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Theatre Royal in London, Oscar decided to audition for the role of Charlie and made it to the final eight in the competitive six-month-long auditions process. He then came across the opportunity to try out his talents for the role of Oliver in the popular musical by Lionel Bart.

Oscar said: “In the audition we had to sing ‘Where is Love?’ and ‘Consider Yourself’, as well as learn a dance routine and act a scene from the play when Oliver had just arrived in London.

“I knew that I wanted the main part, I didn’t just want to be a member of the Fagin Gang.”

And this month, he found out that his dream had come true. Following a busy February packed with rehearsals in London, Oscar will perform in eight shows at St Giles in the Fields church in Covent Garden.

He said: “I guess the whole thing is pretty cool. I really enjoy the freedom acting gives me and it’ll be great to work alongside other people who love being on stage.”
