Kenilworth twinning association welcomes Sicilians for five-day visit

Members of Kenilworth and Roccalumera Twinning Associations at the Black Country Living Museum

The visit, from Friday July 8 to Wednesday July 13, was led by Roccalumera’s town mayor Gaetano Argiroffi and coincided with the Italian school holidays which allowed children to come along.

A full programme of activities was arranged by the group and started with a day trip to the Black Country living museum in Dudley, where the Sicilians were able to participate in a canal trip into the limestone tunnels and explore a drift mine.

The following Saturday evening allowed the Roccalumerans to experience croquet at Kenilworth Tennis and Croquet Club.

On Monday morning the visitors were shown around Coventry Council House and St. Mary’s Hall by the Lord Mayor Lindsley Harvard.

In the evening, Kenilworth’s town mayor, Cllr Richard Davies, invited the group to a civic reception in the Barn at Kenilworth Castle during which gifts were exchanged.

On Tuesday a train trip to London was arranged and on Wednesday there was an early morning start for Luton airport for the return flight to Catania in Sicily.

Vice president of the Roccalumera Twinning Association Barbara Puglisi thanked the Kenilworth group for organising the visit and the activities. She added: “We all enjoyed our visit from Roccalumera.”

It is hoped this visit will be followed up by a return trip by the Kenilworth group to Roccalumera at some point next year.
