The woman in her 20s was walking along the main traffic route around 5.15am on Monday when she was approached by two men, and sexually assaulted by one of them.

Police have not issued a description of the men, other than that one was wearing white tracksuit bottoms at the time of the assault.

It is understood that they later ran off towards Watling Road.

In an appeal for witnesses, officers described the incident as “rare” but “extremely distressing” for the victim.

Detective Inspector Liam Barry said: “We would like to stress that incidents of this nature are rare in this area but this was clearly extremely distressing for the woman involved.

“Dale House Lane is a main road and bus route and at this time in the morning, people may have been beginning their journeys to work, so we are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen two men matching the description in the area running towards Watling Road at this time to contact police.”

Any information should go to police on 101, or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
