Engineers from Warwick District Council will install the new part, which has to be specially made since the mechanism is so old, before the Kenilworth Castle siege reenactment on Saturday August 27.

The clock stopped working after being broken into and vandalised. Warwick District Council did not report the crime to the police.

At the last town council meeting on Thursday July 25, Cllr John Cooke (Con, St John’s) said: “It’s an important part of this town and part of what makes Kenilworth Kenilworth.

“It’s right that we make sure the clock is working.”

Cllr Clive Nelson (Con, St John’s), echoed Cllr Cooke’s thoughts, describing the clock as being like Kenilworth’s Piccadilly Circus.
