Kingsley School pupils raise cash for Oxfam’s work in Mali

PUPILS at Kingsley School have raised money for and highlighted the plight of African children who have no running water

Prefects from the independent girls school’s sixth form in Beauchamp Avenue organised fundraising events and activities, which included a non-uniform day and sponsored races at the school’s sports day.

A water race emphasised the struggle of those who live far from fresh water supplies.

The school has donated £330 to Oxfam, which will help to build wells and transform schools in landlocked Mali.

Life expectancy for Mali’s population of 13 million is just 47.

Many school pupils have to walk up to six kilometres a day to collect their daily water supply before lessons begin.

Just £20 is enough to provide safe drinking water and a quality education for one child.
