Last minute order takes away parts of Peace Festival’s site

THIS weekend’s Leamington Peace Festival will be operating on a slightly different layout due to a last-minute order by officials.

Warwick District Council yesterday (Thursday) told members of the festival committee that, although the temporary fencing in the Pump Room Gardens that had been erected while Severn Trent carried out sewerage works has now been removed, the festival would still need to keep away from a large part of the gardens.

Committee member Dave Steele said: “Without any warning, we were told that we cannot have a great section of the site.

“We have had to move about 30 of our traders’ pitches out of the area.”

Mr Steele said the committee had been able to negotiate keeping a performance area by the park’s bandstand and that the festival would include everything planned on the site as stalls and tents have been moved closer together elsewhere in the gardens.

He said: “We’d like to apologise to anyone coming about it being a bit different, but it’s beyond our control.”

The Peace Festival is on tomorrow (Saturday) and on Sunday. For further details, go online.
