Leamington burglar who stole from shop faces another trial

Ali Hamidi had pleaded guilty to burgling the Spizarnia Polskie Skiepow shop in Wheelwright Lane, Coventry, earlier this year and stealing £500 worth of alcohol.

A warrant was issued for his arrest when Hamidi, aged 21, of New Brook Street, Leamington, failed to turn up at Warwick Crown Court in July to be sentenced.

But it emerged that the reason he had not attended was because he was in custody at the time after being arrested for another matter in London.

So at the request of prosecutor Jason Pegg, the warrant was withdrawn.

Mr Pegg explained that Hamidi had been charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, as a result of which he had been remanded in custody at Wormwood Scrubs prison, from where he had been brought to the court.

He and others are facing a trial on that matter at Isleworth Crown Court in London early next month.

And although Hamidi had been due to be sentenced for the Coventry burglary, Mr Pegg suggested: “This matter should be dealt with at the outcome of the trial at Isleworth Crown Court.”

Recorder William Mousley QC agreed, and transferred the food store case to Isleworth, where he said it should be dealt with, whatever verdict is returned by the jury in the trial there.

Hearing that Hamidi was still on ‘nominal bail,’ despite being in custody on the London matter, Recorder Mousley remanded him in custody.
