A Leamington man has died after being hit by a lorry.

Brian Whitlock, 56, died at the scene of the incident, which occured between junctions 21 and 20 of the M1, near Lutterworth at 2pm last Tuesday.

Police believe Mr Whitlock, who lived in Leamington, pulled over in his blue Renault Clio and got out.

He was then struck by a white Mercedes Benz HGV and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Constable Ady Keeble, of Leicestershire Police’s serious collision unit, said: “We are appealing for witnesses who were on the M1 and who may have seen the incident itself or who may recall seeing either of the vehicles prior to the incident to contact us.”

The crash closed the southbound carriageway for five hours, causing traffic to build up heavily across the county and in the city.

Any witnesses are urged to call Det Con Keeble on 101 or Crimestoppers, which is anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
