Leamington man's 100-mile cycle to raise money in memory of his nephew

Mr Daly, a father of two who teaches PE at Kineton High School, and his friend Andrew Sandford cycled in the Prudential Ride London 100 in memory of Benjamin who died last year.

They are raising money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital where Benjamin was kept alive thanks to the expertise of the doctors there.

They are also raising money for the hospital in support of a colleague’s nephew who has recently been diagnosed with eye cancer.

Speaking after the ride, which took place on Sunday, Mr Daly said: “The ride went really well We started from the Olympic Park at 8.41am precisely to the sound of Fat Bottom Girls.

“We then went out through London on closed roads out to Surrey, climbing first Leith Hill and then Box Hill, renowned climbs which weren’t as bad as we thought they would be even with 26,000 other cyclists.

“From there we headed back towards London via Dorking, Kingston and then Wimbledon before cycling past the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben before Trafalgar Square and finally finishing on the Mall. The finish was amazing with people drumming on the boards and cheering us on.

“At the moment our fundraising has reached just over £2,000 having initially set our target at £1,300. We have raised our money through sponsors, a quiz night held at Harbury Rugby Club and a cake sale at work.”

Last year, Mr Daly ran the Great North Run to raise money for the same cause.
