Leamington men ready to take on trek challenge

TWO Leamington men will walk 500 miles and then they will walk 500 more to raise money for an armed forces charity.

Sam Lawless and his friend Andy Stone, both 22, will set off on a seven-week trek following a winding route along the south coast on Sunday July 10 in support of Help for Heroes.

The walk, which will start at Poole Harbour and pass through Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and Somerset before ending at Minehead, will cover about 1,000 miles.

Mr Lawless, a trained catering and hospitality manager, is currently looking for a permanent job after his previous employer The Spa Buffet closed in January.

He said this is the perfect time to take on the challenge while he is free from work commitments.

He added: “Myself and Andy both have friends in the armed forces and we both want to support the charity.

“It’s just such a good cause.

“It would be great to raise the amount we are planning to raise - I know we will feel tired at the end but once it’s all completed I’ll keep in touch with the charity and see if we can do something in the future.”

The friends intend to continue their fundraising efforts by walking the west coast at a later date.

They could also head east across the mainland, making their way to Carlisle and Newcastle while collecting donations and keeping a video diary along the way.

Mr Lawless said: “After we finish at Newcastle we hope to continue doing these walks and plan to do Scotland, Ireland and Europe.

“Obviously we will spread them out into next year, I think our legs will need rest.

“Every single penny we raise along the way goes towards Help For Heroes. “

The friends are aiming to raise £2,000 for the cause.
