Leamington thief is sent to jail

A Leamington man has been jailed for six weeks for stealing from cars.

Phillip Tedstone, of Christine Ledger Square, appeared before Leamington magistrates today (Wednesday) and pleaded guilty to two charges of theft from a car and a charge of interfering with a car. He also asked the court to take 19 further offences of theft from a car into account.

The court heard that the 49-year-old had stolen two tennis racquets from a car in York Road and a sat nav from another car in the same road on Monday. He had also tried to break into a car in Avenue Road a few hours later.

Tedstone had already been served a six-month suspended sentence for theft from a car in April. The sentence was activated and he was also given a six-week jail sentence for the offences committed this week.

Police constable Paul-Lloyd Luke from Warwickshire Police’s Operation X’s vehicle crime team, said: “Our team is focusing a lot of effort into catching those committing vehicle crime and will continue to do so.”
