Learning disability charity rolls out celebrations near Leamington

TWENTY years of offering support to people with learning disabilities in Warwickshire was celebrated by charity Turning Point at a roller disco at the Sydni Centre in Sydenham.

Staff and service users from centres around the county, along with their families and friends, were joined by the mayor and mayoress of Leamington at the event.

As well as having profound and multiple learning disabilities, many of the people Turning Point supports are also wheelchair users, which was where the idea of a roller disco came about.

Guests at the party were offered rides outdoors on a specially-adapted bicycle and the charity’s Marloes Walk home held an art session as part of the celebrations. There was also a raffle with enough prizes donated by businesses based in the area for everyone to receive something.

Adam Penwarden, the charity’s director of learning disability services, said: “For 20 years, Turning Point has been supporting people with a learning disability to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.

“The roller disco idea was the perfect way of celebrating the anniversary because everyone was able to take part. An excellent time was had by all.”
