Legal jobs to go to Birmingham

HUNDREDS of employees at the Leamington offices of two regulatory organisations will be moved out of Warwickshire by the summer.

The Cube building in Birmingham city centre is to become the new headquarters of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and base for Midlands staff who provide shared support services for the Law Society and the SRA.

Some 700 staff, of whom around half work at two offices in Artemis Drive, Leamington, and the other half in Redditch, will move to the site.

Desmond Hudson, CEO of the Law Society, said: “Consolidating our current Midlands buildings and all our Midlands-based staff together, under one roof, will reduce our costs, make us more effective and more efficient.

“The Cube offers us a better, greener and more centrally located working environment, topped with first class transport links.”

The sale of the Law Society’s vacant office in Victoria Court is due to be completed next month while the SRA and Law Society office complex in Redditch, will also be sold. The leases on the two SRA offices in Tachbrook Park expire later this year and early 2013.

Chris White, MP for Warwick and Leamington, said he was disappointed about the upheaval of so many employees in this area.

He added: “I think they’ve missed a trick , they talk about better communications but you can’t get better communications than in Leamington, it’s very central and has all the facilities they need.”
