Lillie celebrates her 100th birthday with a message from the Queen

Lillie Abbott, of Kineton Manor Nursing Home, reached the milestone on Wednesday June 3.

She was born in 1915 in Lancashire to parents William and Kate, and had two brothers and two sisters. She went to school in Lancashire and excelled at sport.

Lillie left school at the age of 14 and worked in a munitions factory. She later met her husband-to-be, George, at Hammersmith Palais and they were married in 1938.

George and Lillie had three children and 13 grandchidren. Lillie now has very many great-grandchildren.

When the Second World War started, Lillie spent a year in Northern Ireland as London was starting to get bombed.

She then moved back to Oldham. Her husband was still in the Army and Lillie worked as a nursery nurse, and later at a cotton mill. Later on in life, Lillie worked as a nurse with mentally ill patients and retired at the age of 60.

George and Lillie were members of the British Legion and had many happy times there. Lillie was widowed in 1999 and she spent much time with her children, enjoying holidays to places such as Australia, the USA and Spain.

She moved to Kineton Manor Nursing Home in December last year.

Lillie enjoys taking part in the various activities and singalongs at the home and listening to audio books.
