Lillington council housing tenant evicted due to antisocial behaviour

An Anti-Social Behaviour Injunction with power of arrest was obtained by Warwick District Council in November 2012, followed by the commencement of possession proceedings in early 2013.

The injunction was necessary due to the individual being abusive towards contractors, council staff and his neighbours.

He also kept a dog in his property in contravention of the tenancy agreement.

The tenant had been offered support by a number of agencies in a bid to change his behaviour, but this failed due to his lack of engagement and he continued to breach the injunction.

Cllr Norman Vincett, portfolio holder for housing and property, said: “It is sad that some individuals in society persist in behaving in selfish and inconsiderate ways that cause heartache and distress to fellow neighbours.

“The council’s tenancy management team, in conjunction with other agencies will, in the interests of the health and well-being of our tenants and cohesion of our community, continue a vigilant role in seeking to prevent and stop such actions.”

The eviction was carried out on Wednesday June 11 by council officers with help from the Police.

PC Dennis Quinlan of North Leamington Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “We recognise the significant impact that antisocial behaviour can have on individuals and on our communities.

“This eviction is another good example of proactive partnership working achieving positive results and sending a clear message to both perpetrator and the local community that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.”
