Lions hail Southam fete ‘best ever’

Glorious summer weather helped to make the Southam Lions’ annual May Day fete one of the best in its history of more than 20 years.

The strong sunshine and high temperatures were a stark contrast to the weather last year - when heavy rain forced the Lions to cancel at the last minute.

Event organiser Malcolm Jakeway said: “This year was the complete opposite. It was probably one of the best fetes we have had since we started running them in the late 1980s.”

BBC Midlands Today presenter Mary Rhodes got proceedings going at the fete, which was held at the Bowling Green pub’s car park and included a variety of stalls, games, hot food and performances by the Secret Garden dance group.

Funds raised through the raffle will be donated to the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, while proceeds from Lions stalls and games and fees collected from other stallholders will go towards Warwickshire-based causes supported by the Lions.
