The Old Crown and Windmill inns

You must recognise this scene at the top of North Street, I think around the turn of the century. The archway of the Windmill Inn is very distinctive and is still there today.

The inn on the left is called the Old Crown (the name is in the window, but may not print clearly enough for you to read).

The pub there today is still The Crown, although the building has changed. The other signs say: ‘Wines and Spirits’ ‘Eversheds’ ‘Burton Ales’ ‘WF Leeson, ‘London Stout’.
