The Prison Service Sports Association (PSSA), based at Newbold Revel Training & Learning Centre in Rugby, runs a lottery and various activities for serving and retired members of the prison service.

And this month Neil Lancaster, a Custodial Manager based at HMP Send, scooped the top prize from Suzuki Rugby, on Leicester Road.

Speaking of the unexpected win, Neil said: “To be honest, I was completely shocked. I was paying for my petrol in Sainsbury’s when Tracie rang, I thought she was joking! I’ve never really won a thing so to grab the Christmas star prize was quality.

“Being greeted by the team and purple balloons was nice, and let’s just say, the drive back home to Surrey and being sat in traffic in the new

car wasn’t so bad!

“We are definitely keeping the car, my fiancé, Holly, loves it.”

Neil is actively involved in the PSSA’s National Men’s Football and is now coaching the group’s National Ladies Football.

The PSSA said it was very pleased that the star prize went to such an active member.

The value of the Swift SZ2 is £8,999 and it has low emissions resulting in £30 a year road tax. The car has excellent safety features, including a total of seven airbags, traction control and electronic stability program, a 1.2 fuel efficient engine, electric/heated door mirrors, electric windows and remote central locking.

Suzuki said it was proud to be supporting hard working Prison Staff by once again working in partnership with the PSSA, as this is the second car purchased for the Christmas Lottery star prize.

The car was presented to Neil by Bob Davies, Vice Chair of the PSSA, Tracie Mapletoft, PSSA Operations Manager and Ian Weston, Sales Executive at Suzuki Rugby.
