Major Coventry Road closure now in place

A 250-metre stretch of Coventry Road is now closed while Severn Trent Water builds a new sewer - a project which is expected to lead to major disruption in the town centre.

The commuter route will be disrupted until the end of September by the closure between Crackley Crescent and Crackley Cottages.

Wayne Ellis from Severn Trent Water apologised for expected disruption, but described the £300,000 worth of work as vital to prevent flooding into houses.

“The sewers in the area are no longer able to cope during heavy rainfall, and, in the past when we’ve had a lot of rain, sewage has backed up through pipes and flooded into homes and gardens,” he said.

“This is unacceptable and it’s our job to stop it which is why it’s so important to replace the sewers. Unfortunately, because of the nature of the work, there will be some impact on traffic.”

The works were set back in January to avoid roadworks around the University of Warwick and again last month due to road improvements at the Whitley Jaguar Land Rover site - both of which caused extensive delays on the roads at peak times.

Warwickshire County Council’s planned diversion for the works will take traffic on to the A46.

At the A45 roundabout, traffic for the Kenilworth Road can use Stonebridge Highway and Kenpas Highway to join the other end of work at Crackley Crescent.

There are also diversions in place for Stagecoach buses, with all services unable to stop on Common Lane.

The X17, U2 and U17 routes to Coventry will divert down Knowle Hill, Dalehouse Lane and Stoneleigh Road.

The X16 to Coventry will divert down Dalehouse Lane and Stoneleigh Road.

The X16, X17, U2 and U17 from Coventry will divert down Kenilworth Road, Stoneleigh, and Dalehouse Lane.
