Major firm seeks more apprentices and graduates are rated top in the country

While Jaguar Land Rover, the headquarters of which are in Gaydon, have announced it is recruiting more than 150 apprentices this year, Warwick University has been named as the number one target for graduate recruitment by the country’s top employers.

The car manufacturer’s scheme, which has taken on more than 300 apprentices in the past two years, is open for applications until the end of the month.

Apprentices will go on to fulfil roles in manufacturing and product development at Jaguar Land Rover’s sites in the West Midlands and the North West.

Kirsty Scott, head of organisation performance at JLR, said: “We have ambitious plans for growth and Jaguar Land Rover is committed to providing the highest quality of both practical and academic training to develop future talent for the business.”

Ben Lamb, who is currently in his second year of a higher apprenticeship at JLR, said: “There are exciting opportunities available to all, with hard work and application rewarded. It is what I expected and more, in the sense that the company values enormously the introduction and impact of apprentices.”

Meanwhile, a report in The Telegraph last week showed that Warwick University came top in the Graduate Market in 2013, by market research firm High Fliers, as the place for the country’s top recruiters to look for filling vacancies.

Stephen Ward, the university’s head of external relations, said: “As the majority of this group recruit from all degree disciplines and offer placements as well as graduate opportunities, this is great news for every Warwick student.

“But I’m keen to point out that we are just as committed to applying the same careful approach in other employment sectors. Not every student sees their future in large corporate employers and it is essential that we give our students the best possible chance of getting the career they want – whether that be at international organisations, local businesses or charities.”
