A bizarre set of events unfolded after a man believed to be a recovery driver attending the scene of an upturned lorry on the Straight Mile ended up arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.
Earlier this morning, May 20, part of the Straight Mile near Rugby was closed when a lorry turned on its side and went into a ditch, trapping the driver.
A witness then reports a dispute with police and the recovery vehicle as to who should recover the lorry taking place.
The witness then reports a recovery driver was handcuffed and taken off in the back of a police car.
Police told the Advertiser a man, not the driver of the lorry, had indeed been arrested at the scene.
A spokesperson said: "A 29-year-old man from the Lutterworth area (not the driver of the lorry) was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and obstructing a police officer.
"The arrest followed an alleged altercation at the scene."
