Man arrested on suspicion of murder after bus death in Leamington Spa

A man arrested on suspicion of murder over the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a bus has been released on police bail.

The victim, aged 40, was struck by a Stagecoach bus in Bath Street, Leamington, on Friday at 11.30pm.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival crews found a pedestrian, a man, with significant multiple injuries.

“Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“Crews treated the driver of the bus and a second pedestrian for the effects of shock but did not require hospital treatment.”

Warwickshire Police arrested a 47-year-old man and have urged witnesses, who had seen the two pedestrians together before to the incident, to come forward.

The death is being treated as suspicious and the man has been released pending further enquiries.

A police spokesman said: “Police investigating the circumstances of the man’s death would like to hear from anyone who was in Bath Street between 11pm and 11.30pm near to All Saints Church and the shops on the opposite side of the street on Friday night, especially anyone who may have seen two men together prior to the incident.”
