Man dies in Barford crash

A man died after the car he was driving careered down an embankment following a crash in Barford yesterday (Thursday).

Five other people were injured in the accident, which occured on the A429 just before 5pm.

Four ambulances, supporting officers, the air ambulances from Cosford and Strensham and police were sent to the scene, where they found the two cars, which had been involved in the crash.

An ambulance spokesman said: “One car had left the road and was down an embankment. Sadly it quickly became apparent to ambulance crews that nothing could be done to save the single occupant of the car, a man, and he was confirmed dead on scene.”

The 62-year-old man had been driving a grey VW Polo.

The five people travelling in the other car, a blue Toyota, suffered varying injuries and all needed treatment. The most seriously injured, a man in his 40s, suffered damage to his face, neck, back, abdomen and legs. He was airlifted to the University Hospital in Coventry.

A 38-year-old man suffered head and stomach injuries and a 52 year-old-man suffered back, neck, shoulder and knee injuries. Both were taken by ambulance to the University Hospital.

A 42 year-old-man was treated at the scene for cuts, bruises and knee and back injuries and a 32 year-old-man had reportedly been knocked unconscious prior to crews arriving and had neck pain and a leg injury. Both were taken to Warwick Hospital.

Anyone who witnessed who witnessed the crash or saw either of the cars before it happened should call police on 415415.
