Man dies in car crash near Southam

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a fatal car crash which happened on the A426 Rugby Road near Southam yesterday (Thursday).

A blue Renault Clio travelling from Rugby towards Southam, left the road and collided with some small trees before going down the embankment into a quarry.

Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, firefighters, police and ambulance services all attended the scene.

Despite efforts to save the male driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, he was declared dead at the scene.

The name of the driver will not be released until all relatives have been informed and formal identification processes have taken place.

Police have launched an investigation into how the collision occurred and are appealing for witnesses who saw the blue Renault Clio as it drove along the A426 at about 1pm, to contact Pc Mick Hogan at the major investigation unit 415415.
