Man in pub fight denies attempt to cause GBH

A WHITNASH man who attacked another customer at his local pub has denied attempting to cause grievous bodily harm but admitted wounding his victim.

Ryan Hiley, 25, of Bourton Drive, pleaded not guilty at Warwick Crown Court on Monday to wounding victim Kevin Collis with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm in a fight at the Plough and Harrow pub in Whitnash Road last September.

But Hiley admitted an alternative offence of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Mr Collins during the incident.

Prosecutor Vicki Lofrese said that after considering the evidence in the case, she accepted the pleas and would not ask for Hiley to stand trial for the more serious offence.

Judge Charles Harris QC adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report to be prepared on Hiley, but warned him that did not indicate what sentence he will receive.

Hiley was granted bail with conditions that he does not enter the Plough and Harrow and has no contact with Mr Collins or other prosecution witnesses.
