Man shot in Florida from Kenilworth

A KENILWORTH man was shot dead with his friend while on holiday in Florida.

James Cooper, aged 25, who had lived in Windy Arbour for most of his life before moving to Hampton Lucy a few years ago, was found with James Kouzaris, aged 24, from Northampton, in the city of Sarasota in the early hours of Saturday morning.

James Roe, a coach at Kenilworth Tennis Squash and Croquet Club, said: “James has been with the club since he was a toddler and the two of us played doubles since 2003.

“He lived for tennis and for Coventry City Football club.

“It was a complete shock when I heard about what happened on Saturday but it wasn’t until I watched the news and saw his picture this morning (Monday) that it really hit me.

“The brutality of it all and the fact somebody took his life is probably the hardest thing to deal with.”

Dr Jon Burchell, senior lecturer from the University of Sheffield’s management school, added: “James Cooper was a student in the management school and was one of my personal tutees.

“During his time in Sheffield, James was an enthusiastic and hard working student, and was popular among his peers. He had a good sense of humour and a range of plans for what he wanted to do after graduation. I am immensely shocked and saddened by the news and send our deepest condolences to his family.”

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged over the killings.
