Marathon man from Leamington looks to London Marathon to continue his fundraising effort

Harvey Grey, 48, is aiming to raise £2,000 for the MS Society when he takes on the marathon in April.

His wife Mandy was diagnosed with MS three years ago, when she was 44.

Mr Grey said: “It’s starting to restrict her movement. She has a lot of tingling and a lot of pain, especially in her eyes. She can still walk, but not great distances and she has to use a wheelchair if we’re out shopping or on holiday. But she keeps as mobile as possible.”

Mr Grey, who is an engineer for Jaguar Landrover, started fundraising for the MS Society two years ago.

He has already raised more than £1,000 for this latest challenge.

He has a couple of company sponsorships so far and says he has been “nagging” a few people at work.

He said: “I thought I’d use running to gain some sponsorship.

“In 2012 I raised about £200 doing the Birmingham half marathon and then last year I decided to enter loads of running events, including the Stratford marathon, the New Forest marathon and the Paris marathon. In the end I raised £1,000.

“I never really set out to do marathons, but I’d seen the London Marathon on TV and thought I would really like to do it. Paris was really good fun so the next big one is London.”

The MS Society is the leading UK charity for people with multiple sclerosis.

More than 100,000 people are living with MS in the UK - most people are diagnosed in their 20s and 30s.

MS is unpredictable, one day those with the condition can be fine, the next they might lose their sight or be unable to move.
