Marching for HS2 to mark 5th anniversary

Led by Richard Dickson, the Liberal Democrat candidate for the upcoming Parliamentary elections, the walk will set off at 8am from Ladbrooke Hall in Southam tomorrow (March 11).

Richard, who is also a trustee of Waverley Day Centre and member of Kenilworth Fairtrade Group, has organised the event to mark five years since the official announcement of HS2.

Inviting other interested parties to join, he will meet Cubbington Stop HS2 campaigners including Peter Delow along the way in hope of highlighting the impact the high speed line between London and Birmingham will have on communities in Warwickshire.

“The route will be less than 26 miles,” he said,

“Although I’ve run several marathons I’ve never walked one and certainly not walked this route.

“Since I was selected as Liberal Democrat candidate I’ve met so many people whose lives and communities have been devastated by the plans for HS2.

“If the plans do eventually go ahead, there may not be many more years that it will be possible to enjoy this beautiful Warwickshire countryside. We still need to get a fairer compensation deal for residents.”

Richard will follow the proposed track route through Long Itchington Wood, past Offchurch, Cubbington and Stareton and across to Stoneleigh Park.

Once in Kenilworth he will pass the golf course and Kenilworth Greenway before heading to Crackley Wood and finishing off in Burton Green at around 5pm.
