Measles outbreak in Leamington area

THREE cases of measles have been found in south Warwickshire, prompting health professionals to urge parents to get their children immunised.

The condition, which can be very serious for babies, cancer patients and other vulnerable people, is highly infectious but the MMR vaccine taken in two separate doses provides complete immunity.

Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, spots on the cheek or in the mouth and a red blotchy rash. The infection is spread through coughing and sneezing.

Vaccines are routinely offered at schools but people can also contact their GP to be immunised.

Anyone who suspects that they might have the condition should also call their GP and stay away from work or school until the rash disappears.
