Memory of a mum inspires fundraising gig for Myton Hospice

A WHITNASH mother who died at Myton Hospice on Valentine’s Day will be honoured at a special fundraising concert in Leamington next month.

Christine Hinton, who had had pancreatic cancer, passed away at the hospice in Myton Road, Warwick, at the age of 51, on February 14 this year.

Her husband Phil is so grateful to the care she received during her three weeks at the site that he is hoping to raise more than £10,000 for the Myton Hospices charity by organising a gig at the Assembly.

Warwick band Shadowfax, known for their 1950s and 60s tributes, and Rugby-based The 7.20s, a young five-piece band who have had airplay on BBC Radio 1, will both perform at the venue in Spencer Street on Friday September 2.

Businesses from around the area have also offered their support towards an auction and raffle on the night, with prizes already including a signed Manchester United shirt, Bridgestone racing watches, a Pirelli jacket and calender, bottles of wines, meals out and a day’s racing at Thruxton.

Mr Hinton said: “Myton Hospice gave us absolutely fantastic support. As soon as Christine went in there, she and the whole of our family were made very welcome.

“We could visit any time we wanted, day or night, and the staff kept us informed all the time about what was going on. Anything we wanted, we could have had. That’s why our family really wanted to give something back.”

Mr Hinton added: “Support has been overwhelming and local companies have been amazing with raffle prizes and items for auction.”

He approached Shadowfax and the 7.20s as he knows members of both bands, who immediately agreed to perform for the charity and will be taking no payment for putting on the gig.

Mr Hinton’s sons Shane and Dean are hoping to raise more money to add to the concert’s fundraising, having taken part in Myton Hospice’s 65k cycle last weekend. They can still be sponsored: visit www.justgiving.com/hintonbrothers

The gig at the Assembly will start at 7pm. Tickets cost £10 and are now available from the venue, by calling 311311 or 0844 8541358 or contacting Mr Hinton on 07970 636393. Mr Hinton would also like to hear from anyone wishing to donate items for the raffle or auction.
