MEP praises Kenilworth’s youth facilities

Kenilworth MEP Daniel Dalton recently visited the Kenilworth Centre in order to discuss the local work done in engaging with young people in the local community, which includes youth clubs and detached youth workers.

Daniel met with Cllr Richard Hales and trustees Jane Poulter and John Whitehouse, along with centre manager Andy Norman.

The centre runs two youth clubs for 11 to 16 year olds. They are run by youth workers trained to help the young people work through issues affecting them such as stress, bullying, relationships, alcohol and drugs awareness. Kenilworth Youth Centre, which is partly run by volunteers, also sends youth workers to areas where young people meet on a Friday night, while running several initiatives with local schools in 
Kenilworth.

Daniel said: “Growing up in Kenilworth and using the old youth club when I was a teenager, I know first-hand some of the challenges for young people so to see this work which engages with young people directly is very 
encouraging.

“The youth centre is run largely by dedicated local volunteers and the work they put in to help local young people is really benefitting the local community with young people themselves saying the work the centre does during projects, such as the Friday night support initiative are helping them to keep on the right tracks.”

Cllr Richard Hales said: “It was good to extol the important virtues of our initiative to Daniel and for him to appreciate the vital service that this provides to the community.

“It is great having Dan involved as he grew up in Kenilworth and can see the value of the youth work carried out.”
