‘Mindless’ vandalism as cars are painted white

VANDALS targeted a Leamington garage last week in a bold and methodical attack on the cars of six nearby residents.

One of the car owners initially thought it had been snowing when he walked towards his BMW Z4 last Thursday morning, until he realised that the vehicle had been totally covered in white paint.

The garage, set behind houses in St Mary’s Road, is shut off from the main road by an electric fence but that didn’t stop the vandals covering the cars, which also included a Range Rover and a Mini Cooper, in white gloss paint, spray paint and engine oil.

The owner of the BMW, who asked not to be named, said: “I heard a group of people in the distance at about 9.40pm.

“They were laughing, and I thought ‘oh crumbs what damage have they done’ but then the noise stopped and I didn’t think any more of it.

“When I walked along the path this morning I thought for a split second it had snowed. Then as I got closer I thought it was soap suds.

“I then realised it was paint, I just couldn’t believe it. I was not best pleased, it’s just mindless vandalism.

“Our insurance premiums will all go up. I don’t know what anyone gets from it.

“There was spray paint as well, and engine oil thrown on the cars, and rude words painted.”

Police are investigating the incident and are asking for anyone who saw anybody acting suspiciously to come forward.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “It was 10 o’clock on the dot when I heard a noise like a door slamming repeatedly.

“I thought that maybe someone was parking and making a lot of noise or something, but I think now that it was them banging on the bonnets with paint brushes.

“It is shocking, they clearly were not bothered if they were caught or not.

“I can’t think of the words to describe my feelings, I only hope they will be able to match the symbols and signs, and the handiwork, and find out who did it.”

One police officer who attended the scene said: “I’m just gobsmacked, I’ve never seen anything like it.”
