More charges follow Southam attack

POLICE investigating a brutal attack on a man in Southam early on Saturday (August 20), have charged two more men with involvement in the crime.

A 42-year-old remains in a critical condition at University Hospital, Coventry, where he is being treated for serious head injuries after being found unconscious inside a house in Ascote Way, shortly after midnight on Saturday August 20.

Police announced today (Tuesday August 23) they have charged two more men in relation to the assault.

An 18-year-old from Ufton has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and also arson, which relates to a hay stack which was set on fire in a field near Ascote Way.

An 18-year-old Princethorpe man was also charged with causing grievous bodily harm and assault. Both were due to appear before magistrates in Nuneaton today.

Police yesterday charged an 18-year-old Radford Semele man who was arrested on Sunday with causing grievous bodily harm and being concerned in the supply of drugs.

Two other men, also arrested on Sunday and both also 18, were yesterday in police custody following an application for extension of detention. They are being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder.

Two 16-year-old men arrested on Sunday have been released on police bail pending further enquiries. A sixth man, aged 18, also arrested on Sunday, has been released without further action.

Six other men aged between 21 and 40 who were arrested on Saturday 20 August on suspicion of attempted murder were all released on police bail, pending further police enquiries.

Police are still appealing for anyone with any information about the assault to come forward.
