More complaints against police force

COMPLAINTS made against Warwickshire Police increased by 20 per cent during 2010-2011, but the force says the problem has since been addressed.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission recorded 306 complaints against officers, compared with 256 in the previous year. Nationally, complaints against the police decreased by four per cent in 2010-11.

The constabulary dealt with 297 complaint cases in an average of 103 working days, compared to a national average of 107 working days.

The IPCC upheld 71 per cent of appeals made against the force for not initially recording their complaint, compared to 58 per cent nationally.

The IPCC’s police complaints statistics for 2010-11 show that more than 6,000 people in England and Wales made an appeal to the IPCC because they were unhappy with the way their complaint had been handled by their police force.
