Police put out warnings on Tuesday afternoon after 24 reported attempts at courier fraud across Leamington and Kenilworth.

On Wednesday, a further seven were called in to officers leading to a repeat of warnings never to give out bank details over the phone, or hand over cards or cash to couriers or people at the door.

The telephone scam sees fraudsters contact residents to report suspicious activity, or counterfeit payments in their bank account.

On some occasions victims are told to go to the bank and withdraw all of their money. They are then asked what they are wearing, and told that plain clothes police officers will be watching them.

They are then told to hand over all the withdrawn money as it is counterfeit.

A Warwickshire police spokesperson said: “Please remember this is a scam.

“If you do receive a call from anyone pretending to be from the police or the bank please hang up and call 101 from a different phone to report it to the police.

“The fraudsters often target elderly and vulnerable people so the public are encouraged to share the message with their friends, family and loved ones.”
