More than 40 cyclists tackle Leamington event in aid of India charity

The Buwan Kothi International Trust ride was described as ‘the most enjoyable ever’ by organisers and has helped raise about £1,000 prior to the event, with more money due to come in.

The cyclists set off from the Pump Room Gardens in Leamington where they were given a rousing send-off by town mayor Amanda Stevens, who congratulated her colleague Cllr Mota Singh on the achievements of the charity, which was set up by his son.

The riders completed a 26 mile route, which also ended at the Pump Room Gardens.

The charity’s major project is the Gilly Mundy Memorial Community School, which caters for 676 students and employs about 30 teachers and more than 20 support staff.

Since being set up, the charity has raised more than £300,000 for the school through individual donations, social functions, market stalls and sponsored events.

The charity was established by Gilly Mundy, who married his wife Debbie near the village of Buwan Kothi in 2006.

The generosity and friendship they were shown by locals resulted in the creation of the Buwan Koti International Trust.

Gilly died in 2007 and the charity has flourished since then, helping hundreds of children.
