MPs voice concerns over Atherstone-on-Stour deaths court case

Warwickshire’s four Tory MPs have written to the Attorney General stating their concerns over the prosecution of three senior Warwickshire firefighters in connection with the deaths of four of their colleagues in the warehouse fire in Atherstone-on-Stour in 2007.

Jeremy Wright, Kenilworth and Southam, Chris White, Warwick and Leamington, Nadhim Zahawi, Stratford, Mark Pawsey, Rugby, Marcus Jones, Nuneaton, and Dan Byles, North Warwickshire, have put their signatures to the letter.

Concern about the prosecutions has been widespread and Warwickshire MPs have received many letters on the subject, said Mr Wright.

He added: “Given the wider significance of the decision to prosecute, we do believe that such a decision should have been considered at the highest level of the Crown Prosecution Service.

“We have written to the Attorney General, Dominic Grieve, to say that we would be grateful if he could satisfy himself that this has been done.”
