Musical accolades for Warwick boys

The grand final of Warwick School’s first ever Young Musician of the Year competition took place in the Bridge House Theatre last Thursday.

Internationally respected conductor Stephen Bell and cellist Nick Roberts were called in external judges for the event which was divided into brass, keyboard and percussion, strings and guitar, woodwind and vocal sections.

There was also a junior and senior section in each category.

Competition was inevitably fierce and the atmosphere often electric as the boys took turns to perform.

In the end the judges chose Chris Lee, for his stunning performance of Paul Creston’s Concertino for Marimba as the senior class 
winner.

In the junior section they selected Jonathan Vining for his singing of On Mighty Pens from Haydn’s The Creation.
