Mystery good Samaritan came to rescue after hit and run

A family have appealed for the good Samaritan who helped their mother to step forward so they can thank him.

Pat Harris was left bruised and dazed and needing hospital treatment after a cyclist rode into her while she was on the path.

The 62-year-old was left with a badly fractured wrist and = had to have an operation to have a metal plate inserted in her right arm.

But the plight of Mrs Harris, of the Woodloes, Warwick, was spotted by a man in his late teens or early 20s, said her daughter Debbie Locke.

She said: “My mum was faint and dazed, and obviously in a lot of pain, so needed assistance.

“Luckily, a young man on foot appeared on the scene and took control.

“He called a taxi, got in and escorted my mum to her daughter’s nearby, and he even offered to pay for the taxi,” added Mrs Locke, of Percy Road, Kenilworth.

She said it happened on May 16 in Sydenham Drive, Leamington, at around 2.30pm.

Mrs Harris had visited her other daughter, June Compton, of Kingston Mews, Sydenham, and was on her way back after calling at a pharmacy for her.

“The cyclist had come off his bike and was dazed and went to help mum,” said Mrs Locke. “But she said his English was not very good and could not understand.

“It was lucky for her the passer-by stopped. He offered to call an ambulance but my mum just wanted to get back to my sister’s.

“Mum said she thought he might have been a student.

“She wasn’t in any state to think and get the details of the cyclist or the good Samaritan.

“My mum and all of us would like to thank him in person.

“Young people do have a lot of negative things said about them, but this shows that they are not all bad.”

Mrs Locke said she reported the incident to the police but was told that without CCTV footage or details of the cyclist, except that he was in his 20s, there was little hope of tracing him.

“This could have been so much worse. What if he had rode into an elderly person or my young son Zane?

“The cyclist was oblivious to anyone else’s safety.

“Some roads are dangerous for cyclists and that’s why they use paths, but they’ve got to be aware of pedestrians and not hurtle around corners.”
