Myton School pupils win Silvertstone Greenpower Challenge

MOVE over Lewis Hamilton, there’s a new generation of speed racers in town.

A team at Myton School have been using their engineering skills to build an electric race car which steered them to success at Silverstone’s race track this month.

The national competition is called Greenpower Challenge, which is for schools and colleges, and the Myton Team claimed first prize after a last-lap overtaking move.

The team is run by teacher Stuart Sweetman, with drivers Simran Sansoy and Laura Cunningham backed up by a pit crew of Liam, George and Oscar.

Mr Sweetman said: “We raced well in the season opener and actually won! A season of glory hopefully awaits.

“The pupils loved driving in the wheel tracks of the F1 champions, although at a slightly slower speed.

“The car is now being tweaked and improved before the first full race of the season.”
