Myton’s harsh lessons on wartime discipline
The poignant First World War story Private Peaceful, written by Children’s Laureate Michael Morpurgo and adapted for the stage, was presented at Myton School last week.
Pupils aged between 11 and 14 who got together to form The Wings On Cloud 9 Company, decided to perform the play which was originally inspired by the author’s visit to Ypres.
Young directors Aileen Cefaliello and Becky Davies discovered that Murpurgo had been shocked by how many young men were shot for cowardice.
