Myton’s £2.8m development

The school, which has academy status, has found most of the £2.8 million worth of funding from its own resources - thanks to 
contributions from the Department of Education, the King Henry III Endowed Trust, the Wolfson Foundation and a hugely successful drive on the part of the Friends of Myton School group.

Despite the snow, Mr White toured the nine classrooms and two ICT suites as well as admiring the outdoor ampitheatre, which not only offers an open learning space but wlll be used for concerts and plays once the weather warms up.

There is also a staff cyber cafe, run by Costa, supported by the Garfield Weston Foundation.

School head Paul MacIntyre and chairman of governors David Kelham talked about the “extraordinary” efforts of their ‘friends’ group and explained that the completion of the new English department marked the end of phase one of the school’s ten year development plan.

Mr Kelham said that if planning consent is given, the second phase would involve building a separate sixth form and adult learning centre at the front of the site. This would cost an estimated £5 million.
