New climbing frame for Milverton play area

The opening of the new Jungle Climber frame at Dragon Cottage Play Area in Milverton.

The new Jungle Climber is now officially up and running at the park in Guys Cliffe Avenue following an opening event carried out by Cllr Bill Gifford (Lib, Leamington Milverton) and attended by Cllr Jane Knight (Lab, Leamington Clarendon), Julie Bradley and Rachel Turner from the Friends of Dragon Fields, and Simon Richardson, Warwick District Council’s green space development officer.

The new climbing frame will offer exercise and challenges to older children in the area by replacing some outdated and old equipment and encouraging more people to use the area and was made possible thanks to funding of a £10,875 grant from WREN’S FCC community Action Fund.

Councillor Dave Shilton, portfolio holder for neighbourhood services at Warwick District Council said: “This is a great example of a Friends Group working with the Council to improve the local area through external funding. Thank you to WREN for providing this.”

Mr Richardson said he is delighted that the new climbing frame is now in use.

He added: “The new piece of equipment will make a difference to those who use it, as well as the wider local community.

“We are extremely grateful to WREN for providing the funding, as with pressures on Council funding we would not have been able to go ahead without its support.”

WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects form funds donated by FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Since 1998, WREN has granted over £200 million to more than 700 projects which benefit people living within tenmiles of a FCC Environment site.

Joe Newby, WREN’s grant manager for Warwickshire, says, “It’s wonderful to see something we have funded in place and available for use by the young people and families of Leamington. WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit local communities and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”

The grant was applied for by the friends group which liaises with the council to improve the area.
