The council has now installed a bin in Hillmorton Road, near where the family live.

In her letter, Ellie, who attends Hillmorton Primary School, wrote: “While walking my dog I noticed that there was a lot of poo bags in the bin at the bus stop which is not very pleasant for people waiting for a bus.

“I am writing to you because I think you can help by putting more around.”

Her mother Sue said she was proud of her daughter because she took her time to write the letter off her own back.

“I feel really proud of Ellie,” she said.

“She took it upon herself to write to the council unprompted. We were really surprised to hear back.

“The new bin has made a real difference and just goes to show the power of the pen.”
