New flats on site of 1950s garage and a hall in town

WORK to build 30 new flats and four shops in Leamington town centre can finally start after developers reached agreement with planning officers over affordable housing provision.

In 2009, Warwick District Council’s planning committee granted permission for Kigass Ltd to convert the Grade II listed Irwin Memorial Hall in Kenilworth Street into ten flats with the retention of the listed adjoining house. Permission was also given for the developer to build a new building on an adjoining site, which would include 20 flats and four shops and also a car park with 31 spaces. But planning officers set the condition the development would need to provide 12 units of affordable housing for rent.

The item was withdrawn from the agenda for a planning meeting last month.

But at a meeting on Tuesday the committee was given notification the Section 106 agreement had been completed.
