New principal appointed after turbulent year for Warwickshire College

Ms Joyce, 40, is currently the principal and chief executive of Peterborough Regional College and will join Warwickshire College, whose six sites include Leamington and Moreton Morrell, in April next year.

Her appointment follows the sudden departure in June of previous principal Mariane Cavalli, just weeks after the college announced rising debts meant it would have to make cuts and redundancies.

It later emerged that while there had been no financial irregularities, there had been a difference in ‘strategic vision’ between Ms Cavalli and college governors.

The college had invested heavily in the Gazelle Group - a coalition of colleges working to promote student entrepreneurship - and is still a member. Former chair of governors Sue Georgious, took over as interim principal until Ms Joyce’s appointment.

When she was appointed to lead Peterborough Regional College in 2010, Ms Joyce was the youngest further education college principal in the country, and she has led the transformation of the Cambridgeshire-based college.

She said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Warwickshire College Group as their new group principal and chief executive.

“As one of the largest and most respected college groups in the UK, Warwickshire has an outstanding reputation for teaching and learning and some amazing facilities that provide a first class experience for over 16,000 students each year.

“I am looking forward to working with the team during this challenging time for further education to take the college forward into the future.”

Chair of governors Steve Wood said: “We are delighted that Angela will be joining us as our new group principal and chief executive.

“She has demonstrated outstanding leadership throughout her career to date and we know that she will bring a new dimension to Warwickshire College Group, ensuring the college group has a strong and successful 
future.”

He added: “We would like to thank Sue Georgious, our interim principal and CEO, for her strong and visible leadership since July and are very pleased that she will be staying with us until Angela is able to join us.”
