The new three-storey facility, which was started in August and has cost £6.2 million excluding enabling works, is due to be completed in time for next winter to further improve services at the hospital.

On the ground floor will be beds for trauma orthopaedics, the first floor will be elective orthopaedics and finally the top floor will have a number of single rooms.

The hospital is in need of facilities like this to help cope with the continued increase in demand for its services - in particular orthopaedics and the accident and emergency which was recently voted in the national top ten A&E departments by patients.

Mr White said: “It was wonderful to visit Warwick Hospital and to see the excellent work being done there. The new ward will add further capacity to the hospital and allow it to expand the already excellent services it delivers. I congratulated Glen Burley and his team for achieving such a strong result in the patient survey. I would like to pay tribute to the dedication and commitment of everyone who works at the hospital, who have made this success possible due to their continuing high standards.”

Mr Burley, the hospital’s chief executive, said: “It was great to welcome Chris to see what we are doing at the trust. We have fantastic staff that really make the difference to the services we provide. It was a team effort that has delivered the top ten result for our A&E department. It is their hard work together with our excellent community services and our dedicated teams on the wards that has earned this feedback from our patients.”
