New Year’s message from Kenilworth and Southam MP Jeremy Wright

AT THE end of a year when the Government has faced many difficult challenges, and with every prospect that 2012 will be just as testing, I am heartened and invigorated by what I see going on in my constituency.

All around me, throughout the year, I have seen abounding evidence of excellence, initiative and hard work. I have seen tremendous verve and professionalism in businesses, particularly manufacturing. At the forefront is Jaguar Land Rover at Gaydon, which is investing billions of pounds over the next four years recruiting hundreds more engineers and other staff, but it is not alone in forging onwards and upwards.

I have had the privilege of being able to nominate the Aston Martin Virage (and drive one) as my contribution to the Made By Britain initiative, and seen for myself the cutting-edge design and engineering going into these iconic cars, right here on our doorstep. I was very proud to be asked to open the new breast unit at Warwick Hospital, which is a beacon of good practice. I have seen care of the highest standards at centres as diverse as Turning Point at Weston-under-Wetherley, Helen Ley (which will now remain open to those with long term conditions in our area and beyond) and the Waverley Day Centre in Kenilworth. I have seen the passion of the many people in this constituency involved in agriculture, whether it is those running farms, involved at the Royal Agricultural Centre at Stoneleigh or teaching and learning at Warwickshire College’s Moreton Morrell centre.

I have seen the initiative and hard work going into some fantastic voluntary projects like the Lions furniture shop in Kenilworth and Chedham’s Yard in Wellesbourne. In these difficult times what we need is a ‘can do’ mentality and in this area, I am proud to say, we have plenty of it.
