New Year’s message from Southam mayor Cllr Mike Gaffney

THIS past year has not been easy for many people due to the reduction in jobs and the loss of public services and many households have less money to spend but I am sure we have all done our best to have the best Christmas we could afford particularly for the children.

With reduced donations this is not an easy time for voluntary and community groups and many will approach the New Year with concern. I trust you will continue your excellent work in any way you can. You are a very important part of this community.

In 2011 the town council has supported some new activities in the town including the very successful Retro day organised by Southam First in September, the three Christmas Saturdays in December and the new play facilities in Park Lane

The New Year will hopefully see further substantial progress and public consultation on the town centre redevelopment and new play facilities in the Mayfield Road area. The town council will continue to support the traditional activities in the town and encourage new ones.

It is important that residents continue to support local businesses in these difficult financial times and if we do not use them we will lose them.

I wish you good health and fortune in 2012
