Nought per cent for now

HOUSEHOLDERS in Warwick district will pay nothing extra for refuse collection, housing, planning and parking in the 12 months from April, but harder times lie ahead.

Warwick District Council’s executive committee will meet at Leamington town hall on Wednesday to discuss the authority’s budget over the 12 months from April. The rate for an average band D property is £146.86 and the council is taking a one-off government grant - the equivalent of a 2.5 per cent rise - for councils which freeze their share.

But future funding cuts will create an underlying deficit, with savings of more than £2.5 million to be found by 2016 and a projected rise of 3.45 per cent next April.
